Detectives on Thursday arrested a suspect in a shooting that killed a 16-year-old boy Wednesday afternoon at a West Sacramento park. The teen was struck by gunfire in the shooting reported shortly before 2 p.m. Wednesday at Summerfield Park located at 2950 Linden Road, just west of Jefferson Boulevard in West Sacramento.

A pedestrian died Wednesday evening after they were struck by a Sacramento Regional Transit light rail train at a station near midtown, authorities said. The incident was reported about 5:45 p.m. Wednesday as a light rail train struck a pedestrian in the 2900 block of R Street, said Officer Anthony Gamble, a spokesperson for the Sacramento Police Department. Officers arrived at the scene near the Capital City Freeway overpass and learned the pedestrian was dead.

Amador County prosecutors determined a California Highway Patrol officer was legally justified when he fatally shot an El Dorado County man holding a handgun while his pickup blocked traffic on a rural road. CHP Officer Jason Aston fatally shot Tyler Balaskovits, 31, of Shingle Springs, in the Dec. 26 incident that evolved rapidly over a few minutes as drivers waiting in backed-up traffic watched nearby on Old Sacramento Road in Amador County.
