A Canberra burglar who was tracked down by the owner of a stolen iPad, has been sentenced to nearly four years' jail by the ACT Supreme Court, after he went on to rob eight other homes while on bail. Tristan Saunders, 25, pleaded guilty to 19 charges which included burglary, theft, fraud and possession of goods believed to be the proceeds of crime. He's been in jail since the final offence in April last year.

The 59th annual National Folk Festival is on in Canberra after last year's event faced falling attendance and ticket sales combined with rising costs. Artistic co-director Holly Downes says the festival has turned a corner, in part because it offers a wider range of entertainment than some other music festivals. Organisers are already making plans for next year's milestone, with the National Folk Festival to celebrate 60 years of music and dancing.

Easter began early in the national capital, with a local Lutheran Church greeting Easter Sunday at dawn. After the hymns the group shared communion, with a chorus of kookaburras and magpies in the background. Pastor Jacob Traeger led the service as the sun rose over the Canberra skyline. "The Christian message about Easter is that we can always have hope because there's no situation that is beyond God, there's nothing that's too far for God to get to," he said.

The Canberra doctor accused of sexual offences against four women can now be identified as cardiologist Rajeev Pathak after a suppression order on his identity was lifted. The ACT Magistrates Court had suppressed Dr Pathak's name after he was brought to court earlier this year to face twenty charges.

Australian designer Katie Perry has secured a hearing in the High Court in her long-running battle with the singer Katy Perry over who owns the trademark name. The court on Friday agreed to hear the case in a special leave application hearing in Sydney. One of the ironies is that neither woman went by the name earlier in their lives.
