Alexandru Lache has finally been brought to justice almost six years after terrifying a vulnerable woman in a Pratt Street flat. Lache’s co-accused Octav-George Dimitru was last year convicted and locked up following the horrifying assault on the then-teenager.

A thug who teamed up with an unknown assailant to firebomb a family’s SUV in a rural Fife village has been sentenced. John Wishart smashed the window of a Nissan Qashqai parked on Crawford Terrace in Springfield, north-east Fife, before his accomplice set the car alight through the broken window. No motive was identified for Wishart’s offending, which took place less than a month after his prison licence ended.

A habitual money launderer is back behind bars after police pulled him over in the Carse of Gowrie with more than £200,000 cash in a bag for life. Edward Chesser was stopped on the A90 with wads of banknotes bundled up in the boot. Officers suspected the already convicted dirty money handler of being concerned in the supply of cocaine, finding wraps of the Class A drug worth more than £300.

The boss of a busy Angus bingo hall has admitted pilfering more than £15,000 from its safe and cooking the books to disguise her thefts. Lindsey Crooknorth appeared at Forfar Sheriff Court to admit a year-long campaign of embezzling from Buzz Bingo in Arbroath when she was its manager. The 41-year-old was rumbled when a company auditor began reviewing floats across the firm’s branches.
