Trousdale County Elementary School has two great options for fourth and fifth graders who are looking for before- or after-school activities, which include the Jacket’s Nest and the newly reestablished Singer’s Club. The Singer’s Club is a performance group that not only imparts proper musical techniques to kids, but also teaches them how to work together as a community. “The Singer’s Club had its first rehearsal on Sept. 24,” said Trousdale County Elementary School music teacher Kathryn Gregory.

Since the management restructuring of the Hartsville-Trousdale County Animal Shelter occurred on July 1, there has been some confusion as to whether the shelter is still taking in and adopting out dogs. According to Trousdale County Public Works Director Cliff Sallee, the answer is, “Yes.”For those interested in adopting a dog, the Public Works Department, which assumed the directorship of the shelter in July, can be reached during regular business hours.

Trousdale County Schools, together with the Trousdale County Sheriff’s Department, are kicking off a school safety campaign in response to false school threats that have been made over the past several weeks. Because numerous online threats against schools have recently sprung up across the nation, school officials and the sheriff’s department are working jointly to teach students and their families how to effectively handle such threats.

Trousdale County will hold a special election Nov. 5 to fill the vacant District 9 county commission seat that was held by longtime commissioner Richard Johnson. The 90-year-old Johnson passed away July 24, after holding the seat for nearly 38 years. Four candidates have filed qualifying papers to fill the empty commission seat, including Bonnie Preston, Marshal Myhan, Jeff Gregory and Eric Langford.

Trousdale County High School was placed on lockdown at approximately 11:15 a.m. Monday, after the Trousdale County Sheriff’s Department contacted school administrators about a potential weapons threat. After receiving information regarding the threat, the sheriff’s department notified both the school and the Tennessee Office of Homeland Security. School administrators quickly responded by launching a level one search of the campus.
