MINNEAPOLIS — As the federal government steps up scrutiny of food ingredients, another big food company has made a commitment to remove artificial colors from its products. General Mills Inc. plans to phase out certified colors from all of its US cereals and foods served in K-12 schools by the summer of 2026. In announcing the move on June 17, the company said it also aims to remove certified colors from its entire US retail product portfolio by the end of 2027.

Brands Inc. has promoted Chris Turner, chief financial and franchise officer, to chief executive officer, succeeding David Gibbs, who is retiring after 37 years with the global fast-food restaurant chain. Plans call for Turner to take the CEO reins on Oct. 1. Louisville-based Yum! Brands said Gibbs, who has been CEO since January 2020, will continue as CEO through Sept. 30 and then shift to an adviser role until the end of 2026 to assist in the leadership transition.
