Rice Lake's oldest civic organization, the Rice Lake Fortnightly Club, observed its 125th anniversary with a celebration May 6 at Turtleback. Most everyone attending wore a hat as a flashback to standard attire in the club's early years. The celebration luncheon included mystery photos, a look back at club highlights through a skit, and recognition of past presidents and longest members.

Retired art teacher Bruce Kaupanger's Spring Creek Clay Studio was the focus on a field trip on April 30 by art students of Rice Lake High School art teacher Kristin Korbel. "Advanced level ceramics students from Rice Lake High School had the unique opportunity to visit the studio and witness a Raku glaze firing," Korbel said. Those whose summer highlight is browsing through local farmers markets will be pleased to know that in addition to the Saturday morning farmers market that sets up in the parking lot at Cedar Mall, two new markets are starting this season on Sunday afternoons and Tuesday evenings. The new owners of Mommsen’s Produce Patch along Highway SS south of Rice Lake have not only renamed the business Midwest Harvest Hills, they are not waiting until fall to get started.

For many of the 46 residents forced to vacate Dove Healthcare - Rice Lake after a water pipe burst flooded the facility with ankle-deep water on Dec. 7, there's no place like home.
