Dear, Chippewa Valley. It's time I say goodbye to News 18 and enter a new chapter in my life. After nearly seven years as your hometown journalist, I'm moving into a new career. Don't worry, I'm not going far. I'll be serving our community in a new capacity. I've accepted a job as the new Media & Communications Specialist at the Eau Claire Police Department. I'm honored to be a spokesperson. I'm honored that I will still get to inform you about what's happening in the community.
Chippewa Valley pools readying to open

CHIPPEWA VALLEY (WQOW) - Pool season is closing in, and Chippewa Valley residents can make a splash as soon as next week. Good news in Chippewa Falls: the public pool is not only remaining open, it will have extended hours this summer. It's been a bumpy road for the Bernard F Willi Pool. As we've reported, the future of the pool was called into question due to its age and restoration costs. The city found a way to extend its life for a few more years as they work to find a long term solution.

UPDATE:In the minutes following this story, we have a positive update. According to the Cumberland Police Department, Volk has been found safe. CUMBERLAND (WQOW) - Cumberland police need your help finding a missing child. Authorities are looking for Kimberly Volk, born in 2013. According to the Cumberland Police Department, Volk left a friend's house near Grove St. around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. She was seen wearing the purple sweatshirt you see in the picture above.
Rice Lake Police continue search for missing woman

RICE LAKE (WQOW) - There is new information being made public as police continue their search for a Rice Lake woman who hasn't been in contact with her family in weeks. The Rice Lake Police Department is trying to find 39-year-old Melissa Davis. She was last seen on foot in Rice Lake on May 13. Authorities say she was seen in the area of Allen and Main Streets around 6:45 p.m.Authorities are asking those who live in the area to check their home security cameras.
Eau Claire volunteer gifted new bike after theft

EAU CLAIRE (WQOW) - An Eau Claire man is back on Eau Claire's bike trails doing what he loves most, and he has an entire community to thank for it. "I've been biking since probably about 1986," said Jason Sunde. Sunde is an Eau Claire native, Navy veteran and a pivotal part to a community of pedaling enthusiasts.

Annual ScrabbleBee raises money, awareness for Literacy Chippewa Valley

EAU CLAIRE (WQOW) - In the U.S., 14% of the population is considered low literate. That means they read below a 9th grade level. Thursday night, an event helped raise money so a local nonprofit can continue its mission helping those in need find success. Dozens of teams gathered at the Brewing Projekt in Eau Claire to raise money and stretch their brains with a bit of Scrabble. The 22nd annual ScrabbleBee supports Literacy Chippewa Valley.
Invasive zebra mussels discovered on Lake Menomin

MENOMONIE (WQOW) - Fishing opener is just days away, and the city of Menomonie and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources are warning anglers to keep their equipment clean after zebra mussels were discovered in Lake Menomin. The mussels are invasive in Wisconsin. The city's director of public works David Schofield told News 18 the mussels were discovered last fall when docks were removed ahead of the winter season.

Wisconsin DOJ offering resources as sextortion cases rise

(WQOW) - A task force with the State Department of Justice is offering resources to keep minors safe online. It comes as data shows sextortion cases are on the rise nationally and in Wisconsin. According to the DOJ, sextortion is a form of child sexual exploitation. It's when someone threatens to share intimate or embarrassing pictures of a child in exchange for more pictures, sexual acts or even money.
