OK County jail trust names acting director to replace CEO Brandi Garner

The Oklahoma County jail trust has named Paul Timmons as acting director of the county jail. Timmons replaces former CEO Brandi Garner, whose last day on the job was Friday. Jail Communications Director Mark Opgrande announced the move in a news release Monday after a meeting of the jail trust. Timmons was serving as the chief of personnel and administration at the jail, where he started working in 2022 as the chief of investigations.

More Oklahoma school districts are closing their doors Friday in an attempt to stop the spread of the flu. Oklahoma City Public Schools and Edmond Public Schools announced Thursday they would close campuses Friday as the districts work to clean and disinfect school buildings. OKCPS will be in virtual learning, while Edmond schools will be closed. Flu has been on the rise in Oklahoma since late November, reaching a peak in the week ending Jan. 18, the latest data available.

Severe storms rolled through Oklahoma Saturday, producing damaging tornadoes and flash flooding. While the National Weather Service has not yet confirmed the number of tornadoes, storm damage has been reported in multiple areas across the state, including Sulphur, Holdenville and Marietta. At least two people have died in Holdenville as a result of the storms, according to KOCO-5. Hughes County Emergency management, according to KOCO, confirmed one of the victims was a 4-month-old child.
