WARTBURG, Tenn. (WVLT) - While Sheriff Wayne Potter battled pancreatic cancer, Rick Hamby would come to the house every day and be by his side. He and Potter both had nearly 30 years of experience, and started at the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office around the same time. When Potter passed away back in February, the role of sheriff in Morgan County remained vacant for several weeks. “I just miss him. He and I have been partners through all this for 27 years, he’s been my best friend,” said Hamby.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - As severe weather impacted parts of Tennessee last week, in Kentucky, a family from Farragut encountered a life-threatening storm. Bentley White, an eight-year-old Northshore Elementary student, left East Tennessee with his family to go visit relatives in Missouri last week. The family had planned to stop near Paducah, but as they were in the area, they were met with emergency notifications.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - More than 1,000 people packed inside the Knoxville Civic Auditorium Tuesday night to voice their concerns to Knox County and city leaders. Justice Knox hosted their Nehemiah Action Assembly, which brought several church congregations from Knox County together to allow people like Knoxville Mayor Indya Kincannon and Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs to hear what they had to say.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - For the second time in seven months, the Knoxville Police Department is investigating a shooting in the parking lot of Buckethead Tavern in West Knoxville. Back in October, a man was shot in the parking lot and sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Late Thursday night, just after 1 a.m., four people were shot in that same parking lot. KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Tennessee’s Swimming team is back in Knoxville after competing at the NCAA championships in the state of Washington and making both school and NCAA history. UT Swimming brought back national championship trophies in the 400 freestyle relay, 200 freestyle relay, and 50 freestyle. The 400 freestyle team of Jordan Crooks, Gui Santos, Nikoli Blackman, and Lamar Taylor also broke an NCAA record.
