BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) — Around 12 different agencies gathered for a training exercise on Monday. Local police, fire, EMS, and other first responders were on the scene for the tri-annual Bismarck Airport training exercise. The exercise is a requirement from the FAA set to happen once every three years and is meant to simulate real-life situations. Agencies then gather to act out how they would respond to such an event. Monday, they acted on how they would respond to a drone flying into a plane.

MANDAN, ND (KXNET) — The Church of Saint Joseph in Mandan held a big event celebrating 100 years of consecration on Sunday, June 23. “The church was built in 1904,” shares Father Josh Waltz, “but it wasn’t consecrated until 1924. And the reason for that was when they initially built the building, it was built for 50 thousand dollars. Which is insane. 50 grand.

BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) — Just about everyone you know has a camera in their pocket thanks to smartphones. But more than 100 years ago, getting your picture taken was a big deal. That’s why families were invited to the former governor’s mansion in Bismarck on Saturday, June 22 —to celebrate photography. The historic home on East Avenue B was hosting ‘Old time photography day’. Part of it was to show people just how far cameras and images have come in the last 140 years.

BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) — Saturday marked an early wakeup call for roughly 160 men and women in the Capital City area — all of whom were eager to make a splash in this year’s BisMan Triathlon. “We’ve got a really great cheer crew,” states Race Director Brian Jackson, “so it’s pretty fun.”The triathlon started in the capital city in 2010, and over time, has built a tremendous following of athletes who come from across the country to compete.

BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) — One nonprofit is giving back to local-area veterans in a major way. Through fundraising efforts like one held Wednesday evening in Bismarck, 701 Kayaking is working to provide kayak excursions to those who have served our country. Their goal is to raise funds to purchase 14 new kayaks, as they are looking to expand the program to help more veterans in need. President and founder of the organization, David Patch, says that the idea for 701 Kayaking came after kayaking.
