Samie HartleySamie HartleyWhen I told people I was covering Napa Valley StreamFest last weekend, the reaction was the same: You're what? Typically when I tell people about my assignments, they nod and smile politely, but something that ends in -FEST suggests there is fun to be had - fun they might be missing out on. My quick explanation was that StreamFest was a celebration of all things digital - film, podcasts, social media … if you can watch it on your phone, then it is StreamFest worthy.

Napa Valley StreamFest is both easy and complicated to explain. At its core, the multi-day event is a celebration of digital storytelling. This includes everything from social media and podcasting to film and television. Over the course of four days, attendees will have the opportunity to hear from social media sensations, watch world premieres of new short films and listen in on live podcast recordings. It's sort of like a wine tasting.

Samie HartleySamie HartleyA reader recently asked me why the Opinion page seems to be lacking Napa Valley opinions. Honestly, I've been wondering the same thing. The lack of letters to the editor in recent weeks could be attributed to a number of things. First, we typically see a drop off in reader contributions during this time of year. People are on spring break and are actively seeking ways to avoid having an opinion on anything other than what movie to watch after a long day of staycationing.
