Napa Valley Register

Napa Valley Register

The Napa Valley Register is a daily newspaper based in Napa, California, with its roots tracing back to August 10, 1863. Initially, it was named the Napa Valley Register, but by 1864, it shortened its name to the Napa Register, only to revert to its original title more than a century later. In its early days, the newspaper focused on a community that was primarily known for wheat farming rather than wine production, making it quite different from what readers see today. The Register served as a platform for various content, including gossip, stories, opinions, moral lessons, quotes, propaganda, entertainment, and, occasionally, serious news. It was one of the two leading newspapers in early Napa.
