BROKEN ARROW, Okla. — Among six bills Gov. Kevin Stitt vetoed on May 27, one was the bipartisan House Bill 2459, meant to enact an umbrella system of fire code enforcement for food trucks. Gov. Stitt criticized the idea of requiring food truck operators to install a fire suppressor system, yet the final version of the bill did not include it.

TULSA, Okla. — Around 300 people attended the fifth and final City of Tulsa Community Conversations on May 22, hosted by Mayor Monroe Nichols. "And I think everywhere we've done them - now we've done them all across town, and every time we've had people come up needing issues solved and city employees being there to solve them," Mayor Nichols told 2 News.

OKEMAH, Okla. — While the May 19 storm did not destroy any homes or injure anyone in Okemah, a building housing a valued non-profit took devastating damage. KI BOIS Area Transit Service, or KATS, moved into its Okemah office in August 2024 with a new roof and interior ceiling. The group buses around one hundred rural, senior, and disabled residents around the town each week. The non-profit's building on Fourth Street is now without more than half of its roof and most of its ceilings.

BLANCO, Okla. — Blanco has put itself on the map this week for a suspected tornado almost blowing it off the map and sending one to the hospital. Pittsburg County commissioners met on May 20 to declare a state of emergency. 2 News was taken inside the town by emergency officials to tour damage while the community is blocked off to the general public. "It started in Pittsburg and went all the way through to the county line," county emergency management spokesman Adrian O'Hanlon said.
