The search for a former U.S. Army soldier accused of killing his three young daughters outside of Leavenworth more than a week ago intensified Tuesday, spurred on by a tip from a hiking party about a lone hiker ill-prepared for trail and weather conditions who was spotted near the Enchantments alpine area, according to the Chelan County sheriff’s office.

King County prosecutors want to move forward with a hearing to determine if a 15-year-old accused of killing his parents and three of his siblings should be tried in adult court, while defense attorneys are asking for more information. The 15-year-old is now charged in juvenile court with five counts of first-degree aggravated murder and one count of first-degree attempted murder for allegedly killing his parents and younger siblings in their Fall City home in October.

The Chelan County Sheriff’s Office announced Monday it has handed over the search for Travis Decker to federal authorities, even as sheriff’s detectives continue to lead the investigation into the killings of Decker’s three young daughters. The bodies of Paityn, Evelyn and Olivia Decker, ages 9, 8, and 5, were found a week ago near an abandoned campsite outside Leavenworth, three days after their father failed to return them to their mother’s Wenatchee home per a custody agreement.

Washington Gov. Bob Ferguson activated the Washington National Guard on Friday night to help law enforcement search for Travis Decker, who is charged with killing his three young daughters at an abandoned campsite west of Leavenworth. At the Chelan County sheriff’s office’s request, the National Guard will provide helicopter transportation to law enforcement as they search for Decker in the wilderness of the Cascades.
