An 18-month long investigation into a drug-trafficking conspiracy, centered on homeless encampments and high drug use areas in Seattle’s Chinatown International District, netted federal indictments against 14 men, with three of them remaining at large after coordinated arrests last week. Led by the FBI, Seattle police and the Drug Enforcement Administration, the arrests of 11 men and seizure of drugs, guns and cash Thursday was a continuation of an investigation that began in November 2023.

After reviewing the Seattle police investigation into a fatal stabbing downtown that killed a 33-year-old man Wednesday night, prosecutors declined to file charges against the man’s alleged killer, who apparently acted in self-defense. “This is believed to be self-defense and there’s not a crime prosecutors believe can be proven beyond a reasonable doubt because of the self-defense claim,” Casey McNerthney, a spokesperson for the King County prosecuting attorney’s office, said Friday.
