A second person has died in Queensland’s flood emergency as unprecedented downpours continue to smash the state’s far north. The body of an 82-year-old woman was found in a cane paddock on Fulton Dr in Bermside, near Ingham, just after 11am on Tuesday. A neighbour had last seen the woman inside her two-storey home about 6pm on Monday. A father who died alongside his young son in a shocking two-car crash in Brisbane’s south has been identified. Chris Vrbesic, 37, was driving his blue Holden Commodore along Rickertt Rd in Ransome when he crashed with a red Mitsubishi Lancer at the intersection with Chelsea Road just before 9am on Sunday. Queensland has sweltered through extreme heatwave conditions as storms lash parts of the state’s southeast, leaving more than 25,000 properties without power. Heatwave conditions currently affecting large parts of the state’s east coast and interior are not expected to ease until the weekend, with the north of the state left to wait until early next week to find relief, according to the weather bureau.

The sister of a man who weighed just 29kg when he is died is the primary person of interest as police continue calls for information 17 months after his death, a detective has revealed. Isaac “Ike” Oar, 56, was living with his older sister, who was also his primary carer, when he was found dead at their home on Alice St in Ayr, near Townsville, on August 10, 2023.
