Urgent safety upgrades have been made to Sydney Olympic Park station ahead of the Easter Show, with rubber strips used to close the gap between trains and platforms. More than a dozen people, mostly children, fell through the cracks at the station this time last year, which proves annually to be a dangerous period. More broadly, 523 people have fallen through the gaps at Sydney train stations in the last 12 months.

I’ve been covering crime for almost 15 years and each and every story comes with its own heartache but this is one of the most horrific injustices I’ve ever had to report. It’s so cruel to think that a Sydney mother – who was recently separated – has had her world torn apart, all because she was lonely and looking for love. I first met Kirandeep Saggar at a McDonald’s Restaurant in Sydney’s west after a contact asked me to tell her story, in the hope it might end her excruciating nightmare.
