A new injection molder, 618 Plastics, is starting business in Salem, Ill., with a new 35,000-square-foot facility currently under construction. The multi-million-dollar investment includes five molding machines ranging from 250 tons to 720 tons, which are ordered and expected to be delivered when the building is finished this summer, Don Hall, president and director of operations at 618 Plastics, told Plastics News in an interview.

While plastics processors and mold builders anticipate global tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump's administration, some are optimistic about the potential impacts on their business despite continued high costs of doing business from inflation, labor shortages and competition with China. Evansville, Ind.-based Berry Global Group Inc. released its 2024 sustainability report, which highlighted its growing demand for post-consumer resin (PCR) and how it surpassed an emissions reduction target of 25 percent by 2025 two years ahead of schedule. "Our European flexibles division increased the use of PCR 36 percent year over year," Robert Flores, senior vice president of sustainability at Berry, told Plastics News in an interview.

Auburn Hills-based automotive supplier Teijin Automotive Technologies North America will be acquired by a Munich-based private equity firm from its Japanese parent company Teijin Ltd. TAT-NA will be rebranded once the deal with Aurelius Private Equity Mid-Market Buyout has closed, "probably within a month or so," Kim Zitny, director of corporate communications, told Plastics News in an email. "More details will follow when we announce the new brand.
