New Britain, Conn.-based medical device component supplier AVNA Inc. is expanding its Costa Rica operations with a $5.5 million investment in a new manufacturing facility. The first phase of the expansion includes building a 62,000-square-foot facility in a business park in Grecia, Costa Rica, a news release said. The first phase of the expansion will double the company's current footprint, supporting capacity growth and demand. AVNA will relocate its current operations to the new facility.

Meadville, Pa.-based C&J Industries has finished a 25,000-square-foot expansion of its facility and injection molding capacity. The expansion, which began construction in 2023, includes a 12,000-square-foot molding clean room, plus 20 clean room and white room presses. "We recently … started clean room production in the addition," Marty Matthews, director of sales and estimating at C&J, told Plastics News in an email.

Industrial holding company Global Technologies sarl has acquired auto supplier Novares Group, previously owned by Equistone, Bpi France and other minority shareholders. The deal closed April 17. Novares is Luxembourg-based Global Technologies' first acquisition as it builds a new industrial mobility platform.

While the U.S. plastics industry has shifted toward more diverse work forces and leadership in recent years, some industry leaders are concerned that recent rhetoric and actions by President Donald Trump's administration against diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) programs could push it in the wrong direction. "The plastics industry is still pretty white, male-oriented at the top, and, you know, we've begun to see changes," said Kevin Kelly, CEO of Union City, Calif.-based Emerald Packaging.
