The Economist
The Economist is a weekly publication in English, managed by the Economist Group and based in London. It has been in continuous circulation since its founding by James Wilson in September 1843. Although it identifies itself as a newspaper for historical context, each printed edition is produced on glossy paper similar to that of a news magazine. In 2006, its average weekly circulation reached 1.5 million copies, with approximately half of those sold in the United States.

Ousting Assad may turn out to have been easier than rebuilding the countryFor miles around, as far as the eye can see, the eastern suburbs of Damascus are a sea of undulating rubble and skeletal ruins. Part of this razed moonscape was once the bustling neighbourhood of Jobar, close to the city centre. For seven years it lay on the front line of a civil war. A lawyer struggles with their conscience.
