The team’s star quarterback wasn’t wearing a walking cast on a damaged leg, its star defensive acquisition hadn’t decided to retire at the last moment leaving a hole at linebacker, and a promising receiver wasn’t hours from blowing out his knee and being lost for the year.

Sitting transfixed in front of the TV at his buddy’s place that night back in high school, it was like nothing he’d ever seen before. For a reason. “We weren’t allowed to watch that stuff,” Mike Malott says. Mom and dad had rules for their Waterdown home. The UFC was a no-go.

Tailgating in Hamilton isn’t dead after all. After a charged discussion about whether the city should adopt an updated alcohol policy that would’ve banned such parties at parking lots outside Tiger-Cats games and other public places, council voted 13-1 on Wednesday to keep things as they are. “The tailgate parties are such a special experience for so many fans,” said Coun. Tom Jackson.
