With good reason, many voters aren’t happy with major party options in the presidential election. Former President Donald Trump is bombastic, insensitive and untruthful. It’s hard, especially, to forget that he encouraged the Jan. 6 riot, then sat idly by for hours while it transpired. President Joe Biden is suffering from greatly diminished cognitive abilities. It’s hard to forget his embarrassing incoherence on the recent debate stage and in his ABC interview afterward.

There’s no spinning this one. No excuses to be made. The world saw in the June 27 presidential debate what must have been obvious to Joe Biden’s cabinet and his campaign team for weeks, perhaps months. He’s not fit to be president. His thoughts are incoherent. His speech is wandering and difficult to understand. His very aura is weak and discouraging. Whether he’s electable has become (excuse the expression) highly debatable in the aftermath of his debate debacle. But that’s almost beside the point.

In the early ‘90s when I was sports editor at The Herald Bulletin, I was invited to a meeting involving the newspaper’s upper management.
