ELWOOD — Former Elwood Mayor Merrill Taylor, who died Aug. 8 at the age of 84, is being remembered as “a true public servant.”Taylor, a Democrat, served as Elwood’s mayor from 2004-2012 and was the first mayor of the city in 36 years elected to a second term. Citing his wife Lela’s health problems, he declined to run for a third term.
