Granard . . . 1-7 Clonguish Og . . . 2-3There is a wider significance to Granard’s success, given that it halts the dominance of Clonguish at underage level. Clonguish achieved a clean sweep of underage championships in 2023 but that won’t happen this year (although they won this year’s minor title). Granard could be signalling their intent as a force to be reckoned with as a result of this hard fought victory.

Clonguish Og . . . 2-11 Killoe Og . . . 2-7Clonguish made it four in a row of Minor Football Championship titles when they defeated neighbours Killoe by four points in the final at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park on Sunday. It’s certainly a rich bounty of underage success for Clonguish who held a commanding 2-7 to 1-4 lead at half-time. However, they were made to work hard by a resilient Killoe outfit in the second half.

The loss of Longford’s ‘Mr Basketball’, Mick Murphy, who passed away earlier this year, was felt by many people. The Co. Kerry native was the driving force behind successive generations of young basketballers in Longford. The Longford Basketball Academy produced many basketballers since its inception in 1974 and Mick Murphy was a driving force behind it. One of those young basketballers was Mark Reynolds. Mark won a Superleague title with the Eanna club last season.

Grafters Hair Salon was one of the businesses forced to close its premises in the aftermath of the Grafton Court fire. Owner Pauline Coady Belton explained to the Leader what the challenges have been, one month on from the fire. Pauline has relocated her business to the Grafters Academy building on Main St.However, the Ardagh native is hopeful that this will only be a temporary measure and she is currently trying to locate a more suitable premises.
