The annual car draw run by Club Longford, the fundraising arm of Longford GAA, will take place in the third week of July and it has been described as a vital fundraiser for covering expenses with fantastic support from local GAA clubs and members. The first prize on offer is a new Toyota RAV4 or a cash equivalent of €50,000 - sponsored by Longford's Peter Hanley Motors - and tickets are priced €20 for one, €50 for three, €100 for seven and €150 for 12.

Compensation claims have continued to soar to high levels as Longford County Council has paid out almost €1 million in relation to damage to vehicles from untreated potholes and slips, trips and falls during the past two years. New figures obtained by the Leader under the Freedom of Information Act revealed that a total of just over €993,000 was awarded to claimants who sought damages from the local authority during 2023 &'24.

The HSE has been accused of making decisions 'without looking at the consequences' for county Longford people in the midst of ongoing uncertainty over the future of the physiotherapy department at St Joseph's Care Centre. The comments were made by Fine Gael's Peggy Nolan, who has been very critical of recent concerns that the service could be moved to Athlone or Mullingar.

The An Bord Pleanála board has overturned a decision by local authority planners for a former pub to be converted into four apartments despite it having also received approval from an inspector. Applicant Seamus Gallagher, the proprietor of Gallagher's public house from the early 90s up until March 2020, had sought permission to convert the vacant pub into four apartments at the premises.
