Longford’s first affordable housing scheme moved a step closer last week after a multi-million euro bridging finance loan was approved for the project during the monthly local authority meeting. The Department of Housing issued Longford County Council with approval in November to proceed with the 93 unit, turn key development, at Ard Michael on the Ballinalee Road in Longford town. The project will include 25 affordable homes.

Longford TD Micheál Carrigy wants to ensure there is delivery and accountability regarding Programme for Government promises on the Autism Innovation Strategy. The Ballinalee native stated during a Dáil speech that the only way to achieve this was by placing the strategy on a permanent legislative footing and this must be followed up with the appropriate investment and implementation. The Autism Innovation Strategy was launched by the Government in August 2024.

A Longford Oireachtas member has compared multiple regulatory failings at a county Longford care centre during the past year with the 2009 fire at St Mel's Cathedral. Fine Gael Senator Paraic Brady raised the issue, which he described as being "very local and very personal" to him and the people of Longford, in the Seanad.
