A man who was released on bail last week following an assault incident in Longford town has once again been admitted to bail for an incident of a similar nature, which took place within the space of a week. Johnny Nevin (29), and his wife, Michelle Nevin (30), both of 12 Legion Terrace, Townspark, Longford, appeared before Judge Bernadette Owens at Athlone District Court, charged with a violent disorder incident, which took place outside a filling station in Longford town.

A member of An Garda Síochána has been found not guilty of attempting to pervert the course of justice and of forging two signatures in his official Garda notebook in the investigation of an underage sex case. The verdict was given in the trial of Owen Flynn, of Dunlo Hill, Ballinasloe, Co Galway, who appeared before Judge Jonathan Dunphy and a jury of 12 over the course of 12 days in Longford Circuit Court.

A woman who threatened to kill a pregnant woman and her mother has walked out of court with “a very lenient result”. Caroline Donoghue (49), with an address in Cluain na Síbhe, Killashee, Co Longford, was initially charged with two counts of threatening to kill or cause serious harm to a mother and daughter during an incident in Edgeworthstown.

A man with 15 previous convictions for dangerous driving has been jailed for intentionally reversing his vehicle into a Garda patrol car and injuring its driver. John Baxter (29), of Calanagh, Kilcogy, Co Cavan, first appeared before Longford Circuit Court in January, charged with assaulting a Garda and causing him harm, driving without insurance, driving without a licence, and endangerment.
