The widespread and heavy overnight rain is causing multiple creeks and rivers across Central Texas to flood. Despite the rain moving out this morning, it’ll take a longer time for flood waters to recede. The Brazos River in Waco should climb into the minor flood stage, cresting near 19 feet Thursday morning. At this level, trails along the riverwalk in downtown will begin to flood.

Thanks to the rounds of rain we’ve already seen this week and with more multi-inch rainfall totals on the way into Thursday, both Wednesday and Thursday are First Alert Weather Days! With the rounds of upcoming storms, there could be an occasional strong storm or two here and there with gusty winds and hail, but our primary focus is on the flooding risks. A flood watch is in effect for nearly all of Central Texas until 7 PM Thursday.

The past few days have featured rounds of thunderstorms across the state all thanks to a stalled front keeping the atmosphere unsettled. The weather pattern will change to kick the storm chances to the curb Friday, but that weather change arrives with a cold front bringing us another chance for strong-to-severe storms Thursday night into Friday morning. It’s another First Alert Weather Day tonight into the pre-dawn hours Friday.

With strong storms in the forecast this afternoon, today is a First Alert Weather DayInstead of seeing an upper-level storm pattern that would favor your typical BIG Spring severe storms, the weather pattern has been a bit stagnant over the last few days.

With potentially two rounds of strong storms Monday, Memorial Day is a First Alert Weather Day!We’ll need to make some adjustments to the timing of Monday’s showers and storms over the coming days, but the traditional severe weather players will be back!Any storms that form Monday may contain large hail and strong wind gusts bringing Central Texas under a level 2 severe weather risk, which is a 15% chance of seeing severe weather.
