An ABC11 crew at the scene witnessed campus police officers taking down several people and detaining them. An NCCU spokesperson said the gathering was "an unauthorized rally" and said at least three of the people detained were not affiliated with the university.

RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- On Monday, Senate Republicans presented their proposed budget for the next two years, one month after Gov. Josh Stein presented his $33.6 billion budget proposal. The Senate proposal recommends a smaller budget increase than Stein's -- $32.6 billion in year one and $33.3 in year two -- both up from the current budget of $31.7 billion.

On Monday, one block of South Street, between Dawson and McDowell streets, will permanently close as part of plans to relocate Red Hat Amphitheater. That street closure and the process leading to a successful vote on the venue's relocation were the subjects of spirited debate last year.
