Emergency services are at the scene of a crash on the M20. Lanes one and two are closed on the London-bound carriageway, between junction three for West Malling and junction one for Swanley. It follows reports of a road traffic collision shortly after 10am this morning with pictures showing tailbacks forming back towards the junction with the M26. National Highways says delays of 30 minutes above normal travel times are to be expected and is advising motorists to allow extra time for their journey.

A large parcel of land has exchanged hands to allow a “much-loved” primary school to expand and add hundreds of new places. Rosherville Church of England Academy recently won approval for its bid to move to a new site at the Cable Wharf Development in Northfleet. A £10million expansion and relocation has been on the cards for decades and will see the school, which currently has around 140 youngsters aged four to 11 on the books, add an additional 280 school places.

Drivers are being reminded to allow extra time for their journeys as a busy motorway junction closes for carriageway works. Junction 1 of the M20, also known as the Swanley Interchange, will be closed this weekend for safety improvements. More than 350 metres of upgraded central reservation safety barrier is due to be fitted close to its connection with junction three of the M25. It’s hoped the new improved barrier will keep the road safe for motorists and require less maintenance in the future.

A keen-eyed codebreaker who helped secure Victory in Europe has shared some heartfelt advice to younger generations as she marks a major milestone birthday. Louisa ‘Joan’ Alexander made the selfless decision to do her part for Queen and country following the outbreak of the Second World War, joining the now famous Bletchley Park team. It was there Joan worked alongside others to crack the German ‘Enigma’ code, a breakthrough widely understood to have been a major factor in the Allied victory.
