KING CITY — Staff from the City of King as well as personnel from the King City Police Department hosted a vigil last Wednesday for Sgt. Ryan Kenedy, who died unexpectedly while on duty on March 25. Community members were able to fill out cards to Kenedy’s family and share their stories of his impact and service. “It’s been a long two weeks and it’s nice to see the community come out to honor Sgt. Ryan Kenedy,” said King City Chief of Police James Hunt. “Ryan was simply taken from us too soon.

KING CITY — King City Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture recognized four top contributors to the community this past Saturday. The audience gathered at the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds’ Orradre Building to honor Debby Norman as the Citizen of the Year, King City Town Square as the Business of the Year, Rodolfo Tapia as Friend of the Community and Dalilah Reyes as the Hermie Robles Youth Award recipient for the year 2024.

KING CITY — The staff and board of Sol Treasures recently hosted an “Artstravaganza” to not only raise funds for the King City gallery and its many programs, but also to review the organization’s past and community impact. The event was held Sept. 21 in the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds Pavilion Building, and featured an evening of homages to “Saturday Night Live” (SNL) skits, along with speeches.

KING CITY — Community members were invited to see San Lorenzo Park and the museums within during the recent MCARLM Walk-A-Thon. The casual, family-friendly event on Sept. 21, hosted by Monterey County Agricultural and Rural Life Museum (MCARLM) in King City, allowed participants to trickle in and take their time on a one-mile lap. Event entry was free, with participant donations and fundraising totaling $2,000 for the event. Money raised went back to museum upkeep and educational programs.

KING CITY — Students from three classrooms at Santa Lucia Elementary School in King City have completed their first month of the Dual Language Immersion (DLI) program. The new program, launched this school year, teaches students from all backgrounds in a blend of Spanish and English with the goal of having the youth be able to read, write and speak in two languages by the end of their elementary school journey.
