Skipper Graeme Shinnie reckons Aberdeen are now stronger and more resilient after blowing their chance to split the Old Firm. During a sensational 11-game unbeaten start to the Premiership season, hopes were high among Aberdeen fans their side could at least split Celtic and Rangers. The optimism ramped up when the Dons won 2-1 against Rangers at Pittodrie in October to extend an unbeaten start to the league campaign to 10 games, as victory moved Aberdeen nine points ahead of the Ibrox club.

Aberdeen boss Jimmy Thelin says his rebuilt squad all realise the enormity of playing Rangers at Pittodrie – and the need to win. Thelin’s Dons will bid to secure back-to-back league wins against Rangers at Pittodrie on Sunday for the first time since February 2006. Every Aberdeen player must show the same commitment, drive and fight as captain Graeme Shinnie when facing Rangers. Inspirational captain Shinnie encapsulates the passion Aberdeen supporters feel for the club. The Red Army sing “he’s one of our own” in honour of Shinnie because they recognise he has the same love for the club and desire to see Aberdeen secure success. Pittodrie will be rocking as the Dons supporters unite behind the team on Sunday.

Aberdeen defender Mats Knoester aims to make it an unhappy reunion for former team-mate Cyriel Dessers when Rangers come to Pittodrie. Knoester played alongside Rangers striker Dessers at Dutch club Heracles during the 2019-20 campaign. Nigerian international striker Dessers finished joint top goal-scorer in the Dutch top flight that season to earn a move from Heracles to Belgian side Genk. Dessers has netted more than 20 goals for Rangers in all competitions this season.
