Proposals have been put forward for five modular classrooms to be built at Little Heath School, near Chadwell Heath. It is the council’s dedicated special school for children aged between 11 and 18, with 236 places. The council is projecting a shortfall of 57 places by September, the start of the new school year, and the new rooms will accommodate autistic children and those with other speech and language needs.

The East London Joint Waste Plan (ELJWP) will determine how rubbish is collected across Barking & Dagenham, Havering, Newham and Redbridge until 2041. The last plan was published in 2012 and is now out of date, Havering Council says. The aim is to set up a "circular economy" in which products are consumed, recycled and reused – instead of being disposed of.

Healthcare providers across eight boroughs were a combined £80m in the red in February, and were behind on mandated cuts by around £32.3m. The report was published by NHS North East London (NEL), the integrated care board (ICB) that oversees the finances of the area’s five NHS trusts. They cover Barking and Dagenham, City of London, Hackney, Havering, Newham, Redbridge, Tower Hamlets and Waltham Forest.

A north-east London NHS trust has paid out almost £70,000 in five years over wrongly prescribed medication. Barking, Havering and Redbridge University NHS Trust (BHRUT) paid £68,625 to five claimants. It was among the top ten highest paying trusts in England, out of 236. No other trusts in the capital made the list. A BHRUT spokesperson said it would be introducing electronic prescriptions in September, which would “significantly reduce” the risk.

In late April, chief executive Matthew Trainer said Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Trust (BHRUT) had been instructed to make the cuts after already saving £30m two years in a row. He warned it would be a “very, very hard year” and the cuts would take the trust – which oversees Queen’s Hospital in Romford and King George Hospital in Goodmayes – into “radically new territory”.
