Waterford gardaí have issued a warning on cigarette disposal, following a gorse fire in Tramore this morning. In a post on social media, gardaí are asking the public to be mindful of dry vegetation and to dispose of cigarettes in bins. "Tramore Gardaí and Tramore Fire Service dealing with gorse fire on the Doneraile this morning. "With the fine weather, vegetation is very dry. Please be extra careful when disposing of any cigarettes - use appropriate bins," wrote the gardaí.

The South East Mountain Rescue Association successfully rescued an injured walker who was injured on a popular Waterford trail. In a post on social media, SEMRA said they assisted a walking group in Coumshingaun on Wednesday. A young person had fallen and banged their head. But luckily, a team doctor was walking in the area at the time and came across the group. "Our team doctor assessed the injury and requested assistance from the team to get them down to an ambulance.

Local representatives in West Waterford have said they are "angry and frustrated" by a decision to refuse planning permission for 20 homes in Lismore. Permission was refused at the end of May for the development, with the planning authority citing water and drainage capacity issues. Waterford TD Conor D. McGuinness has said the refusal highlights the consequences of the Government's failure to invest in core infrastructure in rural towns and villages.

The Minister of Health has said she is committed to seeing 24/7 cardiac care in Waterford but could not commit to a date. During the official opening of the St Otteran's Complex Integrated Healthcare Hub, Minister for Health Jennifer Carroll MacNeill took questions from the media. Chief among them was when cardiac care at University Hospital Waterford would run on a 24/7 basis. The service is currently available from 8am to 8pm seven days a week, but a 24/7 service is available in Cork and Dublin.
