Fermoy has reappeared in the Irish Business Against Litter (IBAL) Anti-Litter League after the town have been removed from the surveys in previous years to allow for other Cork towns to join the league. In its reappearance in results issued this week, Fermoy has ranked 32nd out of the 40 towns surveyed, coming in under the ‘moderately littered’ category.

The Cahill family in Kilworth are preparing to take on a three day trek, stretching over 100km, walking from Killarney to Kilworth in aid of Breakthrough Cancer Research. Brothers Dion and Joey Cahill will set out on a fundraising walk on June 27, along with their families, in memory of their sister Karina and mother Siobhán who both lost their lives to Cancer. The family explained that they had wanted to do something in remembrance and to give back in their names.

The trial of murder-accused Richard Satchwell continues this week at the Central Criminal Court in Dublin. The 57-year-old stands accused of murdering his wife, Fermoy native Tina nee Dingivan, in 2017. Closing out the opening week last Thursday and Friday, the jury was presented with evidence of interviews given by Satchwell with the media after Tina was reported missing. As week two proceedings commenced on Tuesday, evidence was presented in an interview conducted with the accused.

Church Hill playground in Mitchelstown is closed following damage to the amenity caused by vandalism. The incident is believed to have occurred sometime Saturday afternoon and saw the soft mats installed on the ground in the amenity, pulled up and damaged across several areas of the playground. Cllr Deirdre O’Brien said that she is ‘disgusted’ to see the damage caused to the local playground, acknowledging the recent large investment in upgrading the amenity.

On yet another anniversary of the couple’s disappearance, Gardaí have issued a fresh appeal for information, as they seek closure for the couple’s family. April 30th 1991 was the last reported sighting of the couple, when they were seen together coming out of St Patrick’s Church, close to their home on Chapel Hill in Fermoy.
