The trial of murder-accused Richard Satchwell continues this week at the Central Criminal Court in Dublin. The 57-year-old stands accused of murdering his wife, Fermoy native Tina nee Dingivan, in 2017. Closing out the opening week last Thursday and Friday, the jury was presented with evidence of interviews given by Satchwell with the media after Tina was reported missing. As week two proceedings commenced on Tuesday, evidence was presented in an interview conducted with the accused.

Church Hill playground in Mitchelstown is closed following damage to the amenity caused by vandalism. The incident is believed to have occurred sometime Saturday afternoon and saw the soft mats installed on the ground in the amenity, pulled up and damaged across several areas of the playground. Cllr Deirdre O’Brien said that she is ‘disgusted’ to see the damage caused to the local playground, acknowledging the recent large investment in upgrading the amenity.

Thirty-four years on, Gardaí continue to investigate all circumstances surrounding the disappearance of Fermoy locals, Conor and Sheila Dwyer. On yet another anniversary of the couple’s disappearance, Gardaí have issued a fresh appeal for information, as they seek closure for the couple’s family. April 30th 1991 was the last reported sighting of the couple, when they were seen together coming out of St Patrick’s Church, close to their home on Chapel Hill in Fermoy.

Fermoy Forum reported a ‘great turnout’ at Fermoy Education Centre last week where proposed plans for traffic and parking in the town were presented to business people. This comes as the group said that it is taking a ‘proactive approach’ to issues with traffic and parking in the town, as a range of potential solutions and proposals were put together by the group.
