The trial of murder-accused Richard Satchwell continues this week at the Central Criminal Court in Dublin. The 57-year-old stands accused of murdering his wife, Fermoy native Tina nee Dingivan, in 2017. Closing out the opening week last Thursday and Friday, the jury was presented with evidence of interviews given by Satchwell with the media after Tina was reported missing. As week two proceedings commenced on Tuesday, evidence was presented in an interview conducted with the accused.

Mitchelstown playground closed due to vandalism

Church Hill playground in Mitchelstown is closed following damage to the amenity caused by vandalism. The incident is believed to have occurred sometime Saturday afternoon and saw the soft mats installed on the ground in the amenity, pulled up and damaged across several areas of the playground. Cllr Deirdre O’Brien said that she is ‘disgusted’ to see the damage caused to the local playground, acknowledging the recent large investment in upgrading the amenity.

Thirty-four years on, Gardaí continue to investigate all circumstances surrounding the disappearance of Fermoy locals, Conor and Sheila Dwyer. On yet another anniversary of the couple’s disappearance, Gardaí have issued a fresh appeal for information, as they seek closure for the couple’s family. April 30th 1991 was the last reported sighting of the couple, when they were seen together coming out of St Patrick’s Church, close to their home on Chapel Hill in Fermoy.

The trial of Richard Satchwell, accused of murdering his wife, Fermoy native, Tina (nee Dingivan) eight years ago, began this week. Tina, originally from St Bernard’s Place in Fermoy was reported missing on March 24, 2017 by her husband. Gardaí discovered her skeletal remains in October 2023, while excavating a concrete floor and walled-up area underneath the stairwell of the couple's home in Grattan Street, Youghal.
Mayor's highest honour bestowed on locals

Several locals have been bestowed with the highest honour that can be awarded by the Mayor of the County of Cork, as a civic reception was hosted at County Hall earlier this week. The special event was held to recognise the achievements of the Avondhu GAA Board, Watergrasshill GAA, drift champion James Deane, Muintir na Tire and Transplant Sport Ireland. Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr Joe Carroll, paid tribute to the five recipients.
Crann Ard development to commence in Q3

Works are expected to commence on site at the Crann Ard housing development in Fermoy in Q3 of 2025, according to Cork County Council’s Housing Department. A progress report on the development was sought this week, as Cllr William O’Leary tabled a motion on the matter. “I know this comes up time and time again and we always ask the same question, but the same question is being asked of us as well in terms of trying to get answers,” Cllr O’Leary said.
Proposals on Rathcormac's Hanging Trees receive approval
