The New Orleans Saints are now poised with a decision to make after quarterback Derek Carr announced his retirement Saturday. The Saints have not announced who will start in the position; however, there are two obvious options on the table. Saints quarterback Spencer Rattler started for several games last season when Carr was injured. Although his performance was not stellar, he does have more starting experience in the NFL than his competition, rookie Tyler Shough.

Behind a complete-game shutout from Lainee Bailey, the Southeastern Louisiana University softball team forced a deciding game three in the Southland Conference Softball Championship Series with a 2-0 win over McNeese Friday evening at Cowgirl Diamond. Bailey (5-1) held the Cowgirls (41-19) to four hits in the first complete-game shutout of her Lady Lion career and the first shutout of McNeese at home by a conference opponent since 2017.

New Orleans Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis announced today that the club has signed tackle Kelvin Banks Jr., linebacker Danny Stutsman, cornerback Quincy Riley, running back Devin Neal, tight end Moliki Matavao and edge Fadil Diggs to four-year contracts. Banks, 6-5, 315, was the Saints' first pick (ninth overall) in the 2025 NFL Draft out of the University of Texas.

The No. 2 seed Southeastern Louisiana University softball team will travel to top-seeded McNeese for the first-ever best-of-three Southland Conference Softball Championship Series, starting Thursday at Cowgirl Diamond. The series between the Lady Lions (46-13) and the host Cowgirls (40-18) continues Friday with the third game set for Saturday, if necessary. All three games are scheduled for 6 p.m. and will be televised on ESPN+.

With Heavener’s fifth shutout of the season, she is tied at No. 8 in program history among freshmen in a single season (Allie Walljasper, 2015).

The Brother Martin Crusaders beat the Jesuit Blue Jays 22-10 Wednesday to capture the state championship in rugby. The Crusaders ended the Blue Jays quest for a fourth straight state championship. Jesuit beat Brother Martin in the three previous state championship games. The Crusaders got the scoring started in the fifth minute when Maverick Trimble dove in for the try. Brother Martin took the 7-0 lead after the conversion.
