In October, the U.S. Small Business Administration's disaster loan program ran out of money. Now that Congress has restored the funds, applications are open again, and Sunday, April 27 is the new deadline to make up for the lost time, according to an SBA spokesperson. Businesses and nonprofits are eligible to apply and could borrow up to $2 million for repairs or replacements for machinery and equipment.

The deadline to pay taxes in North Carolina has changed from April 15 to May 1 due to Helene and Tropical Storm Debby being declared federal disasters. According to a release, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) normally postpones deadlines for any area designated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). If a taxpayer’s address of record is in a disaster area, the individual and business automatically get the extra time without having to ask for it.

Lisa Tucker Cauley is the Division Director for North Carolina’s Health and Human Services for child, family, adult, and regional support. She said the Success Coach program can even help a single parent with three kids, for example. “So, one of the things a success coach could do would be help the parents strategize and figure out of these three children that need to do all these activities, how am I going to make it work,” said Tucker Cauley.

The North Carolina Theatre in Raleigh will discontinue its operations next month due to not securing enough funds. It’s Raleigh’s largest professional theatre company that produces live musical theatre. The NC Theatre company is housed within the Martin Marietta Performing Arts Center in downtown Raleigh. It has served the Triangle for 40 years. The pandemic caused some financial strain on the company, which caused them to suspend their 2024 season.

42nd St. Oyster Bar in Raleigh officially closed on Sunday. According to a spokesperson, the seafood restaurant was unable to renegotiate its lease. The owners announced the closing earlier this month in a social media post. The oyster bar originally opened in 1931 as a grocery store offering oysters and draft beer. In 1987, it was reestablished as a seafood restaurant.
