An Asheville-based healthcare company is partnering with NC Medicaid and UnitedHealthcare to provide new moms access to virtual lactation support services. Aeroflow Health is a nationwide provider of products like breastfeeding pumps and diapers. Amanda Minimi, the vice president of health solution marketing and operations at Aeroflow, said the company has a special relationship with first moms. “In western North Carolina, we have a lot of maternal care deserts,” she said.

The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission has launched a new website aimed at educating people on how to coexist with alligators safely called GatorWise. It’s now live in 11 southeastern states, including North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida. “So, we have it broken down into what we call the GatorWise Basics, and the first of which is just assuming alligators are present,” said Alicia Wassmer, an alligator biologist with the North Carolina Wildlife Commission.

State and local officials gathered on Friday in Raleigh to celebrate the renaming of a local post office after a civil rights leader, and a member of the only all-Black female World War II unit. Millie Dunn Veasey was a staff sergeant with the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion — nicknamed the Six Triple Eight. They deployed to Europe towards the end of World War II to tackle a burgeoning crisis: a backlog of some 17 million pieces of undelivered mail.
