The Kentucky Wildcats cruised to a 95-73 win vs. No. 8 Miami Tuesday night at Rupp Arena, the first big win of the season for John Calipari’s team. Kentucky freshman guard Reed Sheppard has looked like the best player on the floor for Kentucky this season. Sheppard poured in a game-high 21 points in Tuesday’s 95-73 win vs. Miami at Rupp Arena. The London, Kentucky, native knocked down 8-of-13 shots, including 5-of-9 from three-point range. Even though he has been excellent through seven games, the college basketball world took notice of Sheppard’s performance vs. Miami.

Reed Sheppard delivered another special performance for Kentucky, this time against the No. 8 team in the country. Kentucky cruised to a 95-73 win vs. Miami at Rupp Arena Tuesday night, improving to 6-1 on the season while picking up what will be a Quadrant 1 victory. Sheppard led the Wildcats with 21 points on 8-of-13-shooting, including 5-of-9 from three-point range. The UK freshman was so good that Rick Pitino, who coached Reed’s father Jeff at Kentucky, tweeted about him during the game.

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky men’s basketball freshman guard D.J. Wagner enjoyed a breakout week en route to a pair of victories for the Wildcats and Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week accolades. Wagner averaged 25.0 points and 5.5 assists per game in an overtime win over Saint Joseph’s and a record-breaking victory over Marshall. The award is the first weekly SEC honor for a Wildcat this season. Kentucky has dominated the weekly SEC awards with John Calipari at the helm.

Aaron Bradshaw’s Kentucky debut is coming soon. Bradshaw, who is recovering from a foot injury he suffered in March, went live on Instagram over the weekend to talk to fans. The 7-foot-1 forward said he won’t play in Kentucky’s matchup with Miami but that his debut is “like a week” away. “I’m not allowed to say it, but I’ll give you weeks — like a week,” Bradshaw said Sunday.

Stoops and the Wildcats defeated No. 10 Louisville 38-31 Saturday afternoon but the talk of the day centered around Stoops’ future at Kentucky and interest in the head coaching vacancy in College Station.

St. X basketball coach Kevin Klein told me today that sophomore Brandon Dayes (6.1 ppg, 2.4 rpg) will not return to the basketball program next year in order to pursue a pro soccer career. Dayes is the son of U of L women's soccer coach Karen Ferguson-Dayes.
