TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Shawnee Co. has released its final results for the Aug. 6 primary election. The Shawnee County Board of Commission acting as the Board of Canvassers alongside the Shawnee County Election Office officially began the canvas of the Aug. 6 primary ballots on Monday, Aug. 19. County Election Commission Andrew Howell said there were more than 200 provisional ballots.

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Shawnee County’s Audit Finance Department has shared its budget progress during the first half of 2024. During the Shawnee County Commission Work Session on Monday, Aug. 5, Commissioners asked whether there are alternatives the County can explore to bring in more county revenue other than through property taxes, such as grants.

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A wrongful death lawsuit has been filed against Topeka Police Department and the City of Topeka in connection to a 2022 case involving a Topeka man who was shot and killed by Topeka Police Department officers. “As far as trying to get information and answers to it, it’s been thrown in different directions. It’s a lot of emotions,” said Da’Mabrius Duncan. On Oct. 13, 2022, Taylor Lowery, 33, was shot and killed at the Kwik Shop off of southwest Topeka Blvd.

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - New federal legislation has been signed into law that will formally designate a VA outpatient clinic in Kansas City, Kan., to be named after a native Kansas veteran. According to the U.S. Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, Elwin “Al” Shopteese enlisted into the Kansas National Guard after he graduated from high school and became a member of Company E, 137th Infantry Regiment.

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Authorities are investigating a multi-vehicle crash in Topeka. Right before noon on Saturday, The Shawnee Co. Emergency Communications Center received notification of an injury accident near SW 10th and Fairlawn Rd.The Sheriff’s Office said a Chrysler Voyager was southbound and a motorcycle was northbound on Fairlawn Rd. The Chrysler was turning eastbound to 10th St. when the vehicles struck each other in the intersection.
