(WIBW) - Retired Command Sergeant Major (CSM) Brad Lopes worked at a wilderness survival school in Idaho when 9/11 occurred, and he decided to begin serving his country. “I watched the whole World Trade Center thing happen, and it kept eating at me, so I decided to go down to the recruiter and enlist, but I wanted to do the bare minimum,” said Brad. Brad’s three-year plan became several decades.

You’ll need the more secure form of identification to fly domestically in the U.S., but it’s also required to enter certain federal buildings and facilities. As the time dwindles down, the Jefferson County Treasurer’s Office has seen a rush to beat the deadline.

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Around 10:25 Friday night, Topeka Police Officers responded to SW 13th and SW Boswell on reports of gunshots in the area. Upon arrival, officers found a person suffering from life-threatening injuries. Medical personnel pronounced the person dead on the scene. This is the city’s 6th homicide investigation of 2025. TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A $725,000 Second Chance Act Grant over the course of three years is allowing the Shawnee County Department of Corrections Community Corrections to expand free mental health services to reduce incarceration and promote reintegration. Shawnee Co. Dept. of Corrections Community Corrections Deputy Director, Steve Willis, said nearly a quarter of the department’s nearly 700 active adult probation cases are dealing with mental health or drug addiction diagnosis, or both.
