TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - The Shawnee County Board of Commissioners approved a few requests that would benefit the projects and funding of the Shawnee County Parks and Recreation Department. In February, Shawnee County Commissioners approved an initial $76,000 budget to repair some slides at the Shawnee North Aquatic Center, but crews discovered more structural issues as they started the repairs; some rusted bolts and deteriorated fiberglass.

EMPORIA, Kan. (WIBW) - An Emporia police officer featured in WIBW’s Salute Our Heroes for saving a life has been awarded for his bravery and service. Christine Torrens, communications manager for the City of Emporia, says Officer Martin Orozco has earned one of the highest honors of the Kansas Association of Chiefs of Police — “the Silver Award.”The award is dedicated to Kansas officers whose quick thinking, bravery, and selfless actions saved a life.
