(WIBW) - The Mount Hope Cemetery held its own Memorial Day ceremony on Monday, May 26, to invite others to remember and honor our nation’s servicemembers who have died in the line of duty. The morning ceremony included several speakers, a Memorial Wreath Presentation, playing of the “Taps,” and the Topeka Police Honor Guard joined by five local JROTC groups to present the colors.

    TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Tria Health presented to Shawnee County commissioners its annual report for 2024. It explained what kind of impact they had seen last year. The organization is available for county employees and helps identify those with chronic conditions struggling to cope. They look at data that doctors often don’t see, reach out to the patient and/or doctor with a solution before things turn worse and the county’s health coverage fits the bill.

    TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - The Civitan Club of Topeka will launch a fundraiser in June to raise $5,000 for the Capper Foundation. Kathy Belanger, a Civitan Club project member, says that starting June 16th, Civitan will sell 1000 raffle tickets each for $5 throughout the capital city. The sale will continue until tickets run out, and the raffle drawing will be held in November. The funds raised from the project will go to the Capper Foundation.

    TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Sheldon Head Start held a promotions ceremony for more than 100 preschoolers Monday morning. Principal Gabrielle Tanner says roughly 130 Sheldon Head Start preschoolers received their certificates during Monday’s promotions ceremony, thus signifying they will transition to Kindergarten next school year. “Many of them have been here for two years, and they are near and dear to our hearts,” said Tanner.
