A Fort Lauderdale senior home under fire for removing all of its residents to convert into luxury apartments is now accused of fabricating evidence in a Broward County court case about the controversial evictions. Oasis Living Quarters said in an emergency motion last week that it provided residents with a written notice in January informing them that they would have 45 days to leave, well before they were forced out in March.

The International Union of Police Associations filed to stop representing Broward Sheriff’s Office lieutenants last week, days after the lieutenants’ union president asked to see its financial records, according to a letter to union members from Matt Cowart, the lieutenants’ union president. IUPA’s attorney said that she was on vacation when Cowart asked to inspect the records. She was also on vacation when she filed the petition to drop the union.

A Fort Lauderdale senior living home that skirted state and local regulations by removing all of its residents to convert to luxury apartments last month is connected to a family of notorious New York landlords. Jay Podolsky, a convicted felon, and his son, Lee, were instrumental in operating Oasis Living Quarters beginning in 2022 and transforming much of it into what is now Waterview Rental luxury apartments, according to former employees, residents and public records.

A man was shot and killed by deputies while stabbing his father to death with a sword inside of a Palm Beach County home early Saturday morning, according to the Sheriff’s Office. A little after 3 a.m., Palm Beach County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call about an armed domestic violence incident at a home in the 6400 block of Emerald Dunes Drive near West Palm Beach. A family member who was at the home at the time had called 911, according to Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Teri Barbera.

In a matter of hours on the morning of Feb. 16, Seraphine Gingles witnessed her mother, her grandfather and a stranger be shot to death, then the arrest of her father at gunpoint. The girl was kidnapped by her father, Nathan Gingles, after the triple shootings in Tamarac. While driving to a Walmart in North Lauderdale, he told his 4-year-old daughter she would never see her mother or her Grandpa Dave again and that they were going to Texas, a probable cause affidavit said.
