In the only MaxPreps Top 25 matchup of the week No. 23 Centennial (Corona, Calif.) handed No. 9 Mission Viejo (Calif.) its only loss of the season with a 25-20 win. Junior running back Malachi Roby had a huge night rushing for 188 yards and two scores. He sealed the win with a long run on third down in the final two minutes. The Huskies went into halftime up 19-10 but the Diablos scored 10 unanswered points to take a 20-19 lead with 5:27 left in the third quarter.

It's win or go home time in high school football as nearly every MaxPreps Top 25 team will be in postseason action this weekend. California's Southern Section Division 1 bracket features five nationally-ranked teams with the quarterfinals getting underway Friday. No. 9 Mission Viejo (Calif.) hosts No. 23 Centennial (Corona, Calif.) in the only MaxPreps Top 25 matchup. This will be the third playoff meeting between the two since 2021 and Friday's matchup is the rubber match.

It's win or go home time in high school football as nearly every MaxPreps Top 25 team will be in postseason action this weekend. No. 20 Corner Canyon (Draper, Utah) was the first nationally-ranked team to play and punched its ticket to the 6A state championship with a 35-34 overtime win over Lehi (Utah) at Rice-Eccles Stadium. King Cooper scored on an 11-yard touchdown run on the first possession of overtime to put Corner Canyon up 35-28.

The upsets continued on Saturday as Boyle County (Danville, Ky.) took down No. 12 St. Edward (Lakewood, Ohio) 38-21 on the road. The four-time defending 4A state champs extending their winning streak to 23. It was the first loss for the three-time defending Division I state champs against an out-of-state opponent since 2018. Boyle County shutout the Eagles 17-0 in the second half.

No. 9 IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) and No. 23 Bergen Catholic (Oradell, N.J.) posted big wins Friday night in head-to-head matchups with MaxPreps Top 25 teams. IMG Academy took advantage of four turnovers by No. 11 Cocoa (Fla.) en route to a 34-13 win. The Ascenders picked off junior Michigan commit Brady Hart three times to improve to 2-1. Bergen Catholic dominated the second half of its matchup with No. 24 Massillon (Ohio) for a 35-21 victory.

This week's high school football action is loaded with marquee matchups led by a No. 1 vs. No. 2 showdown between Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) and Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas). The top-ranked Monarchs are 16-0 against out-of-state opponents since 2017. Bishop Gorman has won 27 games in a row with its last loss coming against Mater Dei 24-21. In fact, the Gaels are 0-3 against Mater Dei and will be looking to change that Friday.

The first MaxPreps Top 25 matchup of the 2024 high school football season took place on Friday night as No. 6 Milton (Ga.) held on for a 13-10 win over No. 21 Buford (Ga.) after a two hour weather delay. The Eagles went into halftime with a 7-0 lead and four-star quarterback Luke Nickel completed all four passes connecting with Florida State-bound wideout C.J. Wiley for a 17-yard score on the Eagles first drive of the 2nd half.

There are some huge playoff matchups this week and the two biggest are in the CIF Southern Section Division 1 bracket. No. 3
St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.) hosts No. 19 Centennial (Corona, Calif.) and No. 21 Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth, Calif.) travels to No. 5 Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.). These are the only two MaxPreps Top 25 matchups this week. This is the first meeting since 2019 between Bosco and Centennial. The Braves have won three in a row and four of six since 2013.
