For the seventh time since 2016, No. 1 Mater Dei (Santa Ana) and No. 7 St. John Bosco (Bellflower) will square off in California's Southern Section Division 1 championship game Friday at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Long Beach. The programs have split the previous six meetings. Mater Dei dominated St. John Bosco 59-14 back on Oct. 25, racing to a 45-0 halftime lead and handing the Braves their worst loss under head coach Jason Negro.

By Saturday night, Texas UIL has awarded its largest number of state champions in volleyball history. Prior to the start of the 2024 season, UIL expanded the postseason in five of the six classes. The only class that wasn’t split into two divisions was Class 1A, the smallest. Class 2-6A each had two champions—similar to the format of how championships are awarded in Texas high school football.

North Crowley overcame a tied first half to decisively defeat Byron Nelson 56-21 in the Class 6A Division I bi-district playoffs. Coach Ray Gates focused on minor defensive adjustments and rekindling offensive explosiveness during halftime. The second half saw North Crowley dominate, outgaining Byron Nelson 365-98, highlighting their ability to score five unanswered touchdowns.

In the only MaxPreps Top 25 matchup of the week No. 23 Centennial (Corona, Calif.) handed No. 9 Mission Viejo (Calif.) its only loss of the season with a 25-20 win. Junior running back Malachi Roby had a huge night rushing for 188 yards and two scores. He sealed the win with a long run on third down in the final two minutes. The Huskies went into halftime up 19-10 but the Diablos scored 10 unanswered points to take a 20-19 lead with 5:27 left in the third quarter.

Byron Nelson volleyball secured a spot in the state semifinals for the first time since 2019 by sweeping Southlake Carroll in the 6A Division II regional final. Despite being challenged in the second set, head coach Brianne Barker-Groth rallied her team to victory. The final scores were 25-17, 25-22, and 25-19, and Byron Nelson showcased its championship caliber by winning 34 consecutive matches this season, accepting only one defeat.

It's win or go home time in high school football as nearly every MaxPreps Top 25 team will be in postseason action this weekend. California's Southern Section Division 1 bracket features five nationally-ranked teams with the quarterfinals getting underway Friday. No. 9 Mission Viejo (Calif.) hosts No. 23 Centennial (Corona, Calif.) in the only MaxPreps Top 25 matchup. This will be the third playoff meeting between the two since 2021 and Friday's matchup is the rubber match.

It's win or go home time in high school football as nearly every MaxPreps Top 25 team will be in postseason action this weekend. No. 20 Corner Canyon (Draper, Utah) was the first nationally-ranked team to play and punched its ticket to the 6A state championship with a 35-34 overtime win over Lehi (Utah) at Rice-Eccles Stadium. King Cooper scored on an 11-yard touchdown run on the first possession of overtime to put Corner Canyon up 35-28.
