The top-ranked Monarchs held off No. 7 St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.) for a 31-24 to win their second straight CIF Southern Section Division 1 championship. It was the first game this season the Monarchs were within one score in the fourth quarter. Oregon-bound running back Jordon Davison carried the ball 29 times for a season-high 196 yards and three touchdowns.

The 2024 high school football season is winding down with huge playoff matchups coming up this week. The lone MaxPreps Top 25 matchup is going down in California as No. 1 Mater Dei (Santa Ana) faces No. 7 St. John Bosco (Bellflower) in the Southern Section Division 1 championship at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Long Beach. Mater Dei hammered St. John Bosco 59-14 back on Oct. 25, the worst loss for the Braves under head coach Jason Negro.

The programs have split the previous six meetings. Mater Dei dominated St. John Bosco 59-14 back on Oct. 25, racing to a 45-0 halftime lead and handing the Braves their worst loss under head coach Jason Negro.

The win snapped the Huskies nine-game win streak as the Monarchs won their seventh game against a MaxPreps Top 25 opponent. No. 7 St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.) beat No. 13 Orange Lutheran (Orange, Calif.) 20-17 in the other semifinal setting up a rematch with the Monarchs.

Julian Lewis led No. 5 Carrollton (Ga.) to a 49-13 win over Valdosta (Ga.) in the second round of the 6A playoffs. The recent five-star Colorado commit threw for four scores giving him 44 on the season. Up next for the Trojans is Hillgrove (Powder Springs, Ga.) with a spot in the 6A semifinals on the line. The Hawks beat Peachtree Ridge (Suwanee, Ga.), 30-14. No. 11 Buford (Ga.) won its 11th game in a row with an impressive 42-7 win over Lowndes (Valdosta, Ga.).
