BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - Maine has seen a significant shortage in the trade’s workforce within the last few years. However, the next generation is already working hard to keep an essential industry thriving here in the Pine Tree State. Students at the United Technologies Center in Bangor who are enrolled in the plumbing, heating and electrical program are looking to be the solutions. Shane Bond graduated from UTC and now he’s passing the torch as the plumbing and heating instructor.

BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - ‘Maine Impact Week’ is when the University of Maine showcases how research at the university has contributed to social and economic development. The perfect way to close out the week is with the annual student symposium. The event started in 2010 with just 10 students. Each year it has grown into a premier celebration where over 1,000 undergraduate and graduate students showcase a project that they’re passionate about.

CASTINE, Maine (WABI) - The town of Castine has a lot to celebrate. USA Today has nominated the town to be the best small town in the entire Northeast but they received top recognition in two other categories as well. According to USA Today Best Awards, Castine ranks number eight as best historic small town in the U.S., three as best coastal small town in the U.S., and they’re the number one best small town in the entire northeast.

WINSLOW, Maine (WABI) - Over 20 years ago, a Winslow high school student promised one of his teachers an ultimate surprise after he found his success. That promise is now fulfilled. Winslow High holds an assembly each month acknowledging students and teachers who’ve met a multitude of accomplishments. 2002 graduate, Matthew Sumner, came back to his stomping grounds to extend a big thank you to someone who guided him to his success, his former teacher Mr. Mark Pelletier.
