The Frenchman, who is considered one of the greatest racing drivers of all time, will be returning to Goodwood as one of the central figures in this year’s definitive Formula 1 showcase. World Champion in 1985, ’86, ’89 and ’93, Prost was the second driver in history to claim four Drivers’ Titles during a career that saw him race against Ayrton Senna, Niki Lauda, Nelson Piquet and Nigel Mansell.

By 1965, Jim Clark was already considered the very greatest racing driver of his time. All of his competitors accepted that he was the best, and respected his talent above all others. His aura was such that the idea he could make a mistake behind the wheel of a racing car was inconceivable. The likes of Jackie Stewart, who himself would go on to eclipse Clark’s success, idolised him and dedicated his career to emulating his smooth driving style.

Born in the small Scottish village of Kilmany in 1936, Jim Clark grew up on a farm, and began his life in motorsport racing his own Sunbeam Talbot in local rally and hillclimb events. His first competitive race meeting took place at Crimond, but he was entered unknowingly by his close friend Ian Scott-Watson. At the wheel of a woefully slow DKW Sonderklasse in a field that also included a pair of Lotus 11s, Clark’s performance was still of a calibre that confirmed his talent.

A field of more than 20 GT3 cars were gathered in the paddocks over the weekend for a series of demonstrations of those early days of the category, but six of them were also taking part in the Shoot-Out, which came to a head on Sunday afternoon. Rob Huff, who had jumped into the Audi R8 LMS at late notice, was the first out on track for this high-octane, quick fire main event, and set the tone for what was to come over the next ten minutes or so.
