The days are getting shorter and the temperatures are dropping - but that’s no excuse to stay at home this autumn. Waking up in the dark, going home in the dark and spending all day sat at your desk can often leave you craving the outdoors and fresh air when you have some free daylight hours during the weekend. Luckily, there are loads of villages, nature parks and attractions that are within easy day trip distance of Manchester. Here are some of our favourites.

The Grade II listed building, built in 1845, is actually the oldest surviving theatre in Manchester. It has been many things during its long life, including a cinema, bingo hall and popular nightclub. The list of people known to have appeared here ranges from Charles Dickens to Take That.
