The European Society of Cardiology (ESC) Patient Forum was founded in 2018. As the ESC Patient Forum marks its sixth anniversary, its impact on cardiovascular care is undeniable. The forum has fostered a more collaborative, inclusive approach to cardiovascular research, care, and policy which has had a transformative effect on the ESC. Atrial fibrillation (AF) remains a common, costly, and high-morbidity condition impacting patients across the whole spectrum of healthcare. The high and ultimately preventable risk of stroke and other thromboembolic events associated with AF1 has driven the generation of clinical risk scores to help determine which patients would benefit from oral anticoagulation.

ABSTRACTPhospholipase A2 receptor 1 (PLA2R1) is a 180-kDa transmembrane protein that plays a role in inflammation and cancer, and is the major autoantigen in membranous nephropathy (MN), a rare but severe autoimmune kidney disease. A soluble form of PLA2R1 has been detected in mouse and human serum. It is likely produced by proteolytic shedding of membrane-bound PLA2R1 but the mechanism is unknown.

It is with extreme sadness that we pay tribute to Professor Jean-Philippe Collet, who passed away on the evening of 15 December 2023. Our comrade, a beloved colleague, a friend, and a mentor to many did not survive a cardiac arrest, a terrible situation he fought all his life for his patients. He was a skilled interventional cardiologist, head of department at the Pitié-Salpêtrière Cardiology Institute, and co-founder of the Academic Research Organization ACTION-Coeur.
