Hardly a patch of grass could be seen among all the blankets sprawled out at Golden Gate Park this weekend, as attendees of the 24th Annual Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival basked and danced in the sun. The three day event, which took place on some of the hottest days San Francisco has seen all year, drew an estimated 750,000 and featured free performances from over 70 artists, including Emmylou Harris and Steve Earle.

Students share experiences of transfer decisionsWhen I committed to USF, it was because I was looking for a place that was as different as possible from home. I grew up in a very rural area, and I wanted to really experience life outside of that bubble. USF offered an exciting, diverse and urban environment. I was confident that I would find a community here, but as a first year student I struggled to find a church in the city and was disappointed with campus resources for spiritual health.

As U.S. agriculture shrinks, La Plata County grows Overhead costs for farmers and ranchers have risen significantly in recent years. Cattle, land, loans and gasoline are all rising in price. High and increasing costs are barriers to establishing operations for new or young farmers and ranchers. As a result, there are fewer agricultural producers nationwide, and the average age of those producers is rising.

Many competitors sold their livestock at the Fair’s auction, and they were supported by area businesses. Because of a Montezuma County rule, competitors can only sell one animal at the fair’s auction.
