    Demons used 14-0 run in fourth quarter to pull away Durango boys basketball head coach Alan Batiste has said all season the key to the Demons’ success will be defense. Durango showed that on Tuesday in its 62-38 win over Montezuma-Cortez at home. The Demons used all of their length and height to get into passing lanes, strip Panthers ball handlers and crash the offensive glass. Montezuma-Cortez never got into an offensive rhythm and Durango led by double-digits for most of the game.

    Demons win 58-36 in first game of 2025 On Tuesday night, he girls high school basketball game between Durango and Montezuma-Cortez looked like a dual between two senior guards inside Durango High School. Durango’s Mariah Maestas and Montezuma-Cortez’s Taylor Whited exchanged shots from all over the court. Whited was especially hot from 3-point range in the first half and carried her team with 17 points. Maestas finished inside and stepped out for a few 3-pointers on her way to 22 points.

    Claire Goodwin led Durango with 15 points in defeat Farmington High School junior guard Kjani Anitielu showed her experience on Tuesday night at Durango High School against the Demons. Anitielu scored nine of her 15 points, including a 5-5 mark from the free-throw line, in the fourth quarter to propel Farmington past Durango 49-45. Anitielu has been on varsity since she was in eighth grade and in her first three years, the Scorpions went 79-12. Farmington moved to 1-0 on the season.
