One of LS Lowry's most famous paintings has gone on display at Birkenhead’s Williamson Art Gallery & Museum. Going to the Match, painted in 1953, is arguably the best-known and most popular work by the artist, who was born in Stretford, Greater Manchester. It was sold at auction in October 2022 for £7,846,500. The painting has now left its home at The Lowry in Salford and is on a tour of five venues in the North West of England.

A company that transports uranium overseas has been told it must improve the safety of its operations. Urenco UK Ltd (UUK), based in Capenhurst, Cheshire, had not made proper safety checks or made sure its shipments were correctly approved, industry watchdog the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) said. The problems were identified during inspections by the ONR. UUK has until 31 May to comply with the improvement notice.

A tree memorial which commemorates a British soldier who was killed in Afghanistan in 2013 has been unveiled. Lance Corporal Jamie Webb, 24, of Mercian Regiment was killed on 26 March 2013 after his patrol base was attacked by insurgents. More than 200 people, including veterans, attended a service for him at Handforth War Memorial. A plaque said he was a "a true British hero from Handforth" and his resilience and kindness made him a role model.

A ban on activities that could lead to moorland fires has been renewed, as authorities prepare for warmer months. A Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) ban on barbeques, campfires, stoves, fireworks and paper lanterns covers Darwen, Bolton and Chorley. It was first introduced in August and is one of the largest PSPOs in effect in England. It comes after a series of devastating moorland fires, including a major incident at Winter Hill in 2018.

Thousands of people across Merseyside could be owed money as part of the Windrush Compensation Scheme, a campaign group says. Liverpool Advocates for Windrush (LAW) has conducted a survey of people across the region. It received more than 1,200 responses, which organisers say "shows how big the issue is across Merseyside". They want to bring focus and understanding to one of the "greatest scandals" in modern British history.
