GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A pool of possible jurors arrived at a Grand Rapids courthouse Monday afternoon ahead of the trial of former Grand Rapids Police officer Christopher Schurr, who is accused of murdering Patrick Lyoya during a traffic stop in April of 2023. Schurr's trial is to take place beginning Monday, April 28, at the Kent County 17th Circuit Court, presided over by the Honorable Christina Mims.

KENT COUNTY, Mich. — Two people are dead after separate pedestrian crashes on 36th Street, the Kent County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) told 13 ON YOUR SIDE. KCSO Sgt. Scott Dietrich said both crashes happened on 36th Street Sunday night and were unrelated. One of the crashes was on 36th Street near the ramp to US-131 and the other was near the area of Raleigh Street, KCSO said.

Danny Wolf helped lead the Wolverines to a Big Ten Conference Tournament championship under first-year head coach Dusty May. Wolf made his announcement in a social media post on Instagram Wednesday, where he said his time in Ann Arbor the last year was the greatest of his life.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A former Michigan State Police (MSP) sergeant accused of killing Samuel Sterling in 2024 will not be granted a stay in a civil suit brought against him, a judge ordered Monday. Brian Keely is charged with murder after hitting Sterling with his police vehicle following a chase on April 17, 2024. MSP released dash cam and body cam footage of the incident, where you can see the vehicle pin Sterling to the side of a Burger King restaurant. Sterling died later that day.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Six vehicles, including a city bus, had to be towed following a crash on Kalamazoo Avenue Tuesday afternoon. Around 2:45 p.m., The Rapid's Route 2 bus was traveling southbound on Kalamazoo Avenue when it rear-ended seven vehicles at Kalamazoo Avenue and M-6, an official from The Rapid told 13 ON YOUR SIDE. The official said there were no passengers on board of the bus when the crash occurred.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A former seasonal employee at the John Ball Zoo pleaded guilty to multiple charges Tuesday following accusations that he was taking photos up guests' skirts at the zoo, including a child's. Steven Pook was initially charged with one count of child sexually abusive activity, two counts of capturing/distributing an image of an unclothed person and three counts of using a computer to commit a crime.

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. — Ferris State University is partnering with Remote Area Medical (RAM) to provide free healthcare services for two days beginning next month. On Saturday, May 31 and Sunday, June 1, free medical, dental and vision care will be offered at a RAM clinic set up in Ewigleben Sports Complex located at 210 Sports Dr in Big Rapids. The clinic opens at 6 a.m. on May 31 while the parking lot for the clinic opens no later than 11:59 p.m. on May 30.

LANSING, Mich. — Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel announced Monday that she is joining a coalition of 19 attorneys general challenging the Trump Administration's deportation policy. The amicus brief filed by the attorneys general urges the court to block the so-called "Ideological Deportation Policy," which they say targets and punishes noncitizens with lawful status, especially students and faculty of colleges and universities, who express beliefs that are at odds with the Administration's.
