    RIVES TWP., MI – Rives Township again needs a new clerk again after the latest resignation. Joseph Super left his post as township clerk Thursday, May 22, hours before the start of a special township meeting to discuss additional duties assigned to the clerk. This is the fourth time the township clerk has resigned in two years. Super could not be reached for comment. He won the November 2024 general election.

    BRIGHTON TWP., MI – Police seized more than $100,000 in fake cash following an investigation into counterfeiting. The investigation began March 28 when a Brighton Township resident reported being paid for the sale of a drone with counterfeit cash, according to the Michigan State Police. The victim told investigators a man agreed to buy the drone from him for $800, paying for the drone with cash. The victim later contacted police after discovering the cash that was used was fake, police said.

    CHELSEA, MI — Police rushing to the scene of a reported active shooter at a hospital arrived to find nothing except an unhappy patient. Police were called at 8:50 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, to Chelsea Hospital for a 911 call of an active shooter in progress, according to the Chelsea Police Department. Arriving officers found staff and immediately determined the report was unfounded and no shooting had occurred, police said.

    SUMMIT TWP., MI – A man accused of opening fire on a group of people in a drive-by shooting in Summit Township is heading to trial. Martez Anthony Haywood Jr. was bound over for trial on multiple felony charges May 14 after a preliminary examination before Jackson County District Judge Michael Klaeren, court records show. Haywood, 25, faces five felony charges including discharging a firearm from a vehicle. The case has been assigned to Jackson County Circuit Judge Susan Jordan.
